2017 NACAC NATIONAL CONFERENCE (BOSTON)

Last week, Ms. Haines, Mr. Coulombe, and Mr. Cross attended the 2017 NACAC (National Association for College Admission Counseling) National Conference in Boston. This annual conference brings together all the players in the college admissions process including college and school counselors, college admissions representatives, independent educational consultants, community-based organizations, and educational vendors and exhibitors. We learned about current topics, trends, and concerns in the college admissions world through educational sessions, technology labs, product demonstrations, and an enormous college fair. These opportunities helped us learn about the current state and future of college admission counseling, what admission deans are thinking, a new style of recommendation letter that is catching the attention of many admission offices, free approaches to college readiness, aiding students with their college lists in ways beyond the obvious, using social media in counseling and recruiting, updates to Naviance, navigating the admission process of US service academies, and tools and planning for student financial aid success. Our membership to NACAC is essential to the success of our office in order to understand the needs and challenges our students will face, and we are thankful to attend such a robust professional development experience.
